Admitted Students – FAQ's
Q: I've been accepted. Now what do I do?
A:You should have received an email with a link to our Forms and Waivers page, which includes a link to an online survey. Please complete the 2018 COSMOS Acceptance, Acceptance Fee, and Roommate Survey to confirm your attendance by April 6, 2018. The package of waivers on the Forms and Waivers page must be postmarked by May 25, 2018. If you have not received either of these emails, please contact us. If you need access to the Forms and Waivers page but do not have the link, please contact us.
Q: What should I bring to COSMOS?
A: Please see our list of what to bring.
Q: What will the average day be like at COSMOS?
A: Please see the sample of our daily schedule.
Q: Can I pick a roommate?
A: Requests for a specific roommate will not be honored. Students are assigned to a gender-specific building, and housed with students in the same age range. COSMOS has been very successful in assigning compatible roommates who remain friends long after the program is over.
Q: Can I leave campus during the program? Can parents visit?
A: For safety and to encourage students to enjoy the educational and interpersonal opportunities at COSMOS, guest visitations are not allowed and students cannot leave campus. Family members and visitors are not permitted with the exception of Family Weekend. Only in the case of emergency situations will special provisions be made for a student to leave campus or have a visitor(s) during the COSMOS Program. Please schedule all medical appointments, etc. around the program dates and during the planned family visitation weekend. The parent/guardian should call the on-site COSMOS office number and send an email (firstname.lastname@example.org) if an emergency arises that necessitates a visit. Please remember that a student who is removed from the program for any period of time may be considered dismissed and ineligible for refund.
Q: Can I bring a bike, skateboard or car?
A: No, these items are not allowed at COSMOS and will be not be accessible to students if brought.
Q: Can I bring sporting equipment or a musical instrument?
A: Students can bring most sporting equipment to COSMOS including tennis racquets, lacrosse sticks, etc. Weapons or dangerous items are not allowed. COSMOS has basketballs, soccer balls, etc. available for students use. Students do not have access to gyms or fitness facilities on the UCSD campus. Depending on the interest of the students and the RA's, activities like a morning running club are organized.
Students are allowed to bring musical instruments to COSMOS. The student is fully responsible for the safety and security of their instrument and it is suggested that a lesser value instrument be brought to campus. An upright piano is available for practice and playing but students do not have access to specialized music or voice rooms.
Q: I have more questions. Who should I contact?
A: Please do not hesitate to contact the UCSD COSMOS office with questions. The COSMOS Student Handbook is also an excellent information resource.
