ABOUT THE SPEAKERS

Ning Ho
Head, UC San Diego Chinese Student and Scholars Organization, Beijing Chapter

Mr. Ning Ho has been working in Beijing to support a U.S. hedge fund, Medley Capital, with overall China private investment strategies since 2007; his duties include deal sourcing, due diligence, and portfolio company management. Prior to joining Medley Capital, Mr. Ho worked at a San Francisco office of a boutique investment banking firm, Latitude Capital, which focus on U.S. China cross border M&A and private placement transactions. Mr. Ho earned a B.S. degree in Economics from UCSD in 2006 and exchanged at Guanghua School of Management at Peking University in 2005. Mr. Ho is fluent in English, Mandarin, and Cantonese.

Frieder Seible
Dean, UC San Diego Jacobs School of Engineering

Frieder Seible is the Dean of the Jacobs School of Engineering at the University of California , San Diego. He is a member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering and is the Walter J. Zable Professor of Engineering and the Eric and Johanna Reissner Professor of Applied Mechanics and Structural Engineering.

Dr. Seible's research achievements include the development of large-scale structural testing techniques, seismic assessment and retrofit of bridges, and the application of Polymer Matrix Composites (PMC) in civil engineering structures. He was the founding director of the Charles Lee Powell Structural Research Laboratories, which serve as a worldwide resource for full-scale testing and analysis of structures. He has served on or led national and international committees on bridge reconstruction and retrofit, and serves as a structural engineering consultant on many of the world's long-span bridges.

Dr. Seible received a Dpl. Ing. from the University of Stuttgart, a M.Sc. from the University of Calgary, and a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, all in civil engineering.

Xiaofeng Shao
Vice President and CTO, Easyway Company Limited

Xiaofeng Shao is an entrepreneur and senior executive with extensive experience both in China and US. He is the Vice president and CTO of Easyway Company Limited (China), a company that supports China's dedicated passenger high-speed railway line with advanced technology.

Before joining Easeway, he co-founded EPIN Technologies, Inc (China) in 2002 and served as the company's CTO. EPIN Technologies, Inc. is a primary player in China's new media industry that constructs broadband wireless communication platform for China railway system.

While his stay in the U.S., Mr. Shao co-founded ServGate Technologies, Inc, a leading manufacturer of high-performance, network processor security gateways. He was also one of the initial team members of Netscreen Technologies, Inc, one of the most successful companies founded by engineers from Mainland China. Mr. Shao was a visiting scholar in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at the UCSD Jacobs School of Engineering, and was recognized as a successful entrepreneur by EE Times in year 2001.

Xiaofeng Shao received his BS and MS degree in Electrical Engineering from Tsinghua University in 1985 and 1987 respectively. Currently Mr. Shao is a research fellow at the Future Information Technology R&D Center of Tsinghua University

Junling Sun
President, UC San Diego Chinese Student and Scholars Organization

Dr. Junling Sun received his Ph. D from University of California, San Diego in 1993.  He is also the honored Professor of Hunan University and South East University in China.  Dr. Sun became the founding president of the UC San Diego Chinese Student and Scholars Organization in 2009.

Dr. Junling Sun is the President and Technical Director of SECI, is a well-known international bridge design master. He has designed a number of landmark bridges that are serving communities in North America and Asia. With twenty-three year experience in structural design and construction engineering service, Dr. Sun is responsible for the design and construction engineering consulting of many major bridges and bridges in metro systems both in China and abroad. Dr. Sun is the Chief Design Engineer for a world longest girder bridge Chongqing ShiBanPo Yangtze River Bridge and Chongqing CaiYuanBa Yangtze River Bridge as well as the Chief Design Engineer for the BaiSha River Crossing in the city of Guangzhou.

Bo Yang
Founder and CEO, Douban.Com

Bo Yang earned his B.Sc. from Tsinghua University, and a Ph.D in physics from University of California, San Diego in 1995. He Joined IBM (San Jose) in 1998 as an advisory scientist. From 2000 to 2004 he was the CTO and a co-founder of egistics Corporation in Beijing, a startup in supply chain management solutions. In late 2004 he started working on douban.com and in 2005 founded Douban.Inc.  Douban is a social media website which allows users to share preferences on books, music and video.
