The Nexus of Bioengineering and Systems Medicine
Paving the Way for Personalized Medicine

Shankar Subramaniam

Bioengineering is beginning to play a significant role in diagnosis, prognosis and therapeutics of human diseases at the systems level. Dr. Subramaniam will discuss the use of engineering approaches to study the pathways of insulin resistance and the mechanisms of response versus non-response to treatments thus laying the groundwork for personalized medicine. The broad applicability of this approach to models of normal and abnormal function of skeletal muscle will also be presented.
