Presenting an interactive, hybrid human-computer method for object classification
Computer science professor Serge Belongie will present his groundbreaking work to improve computer vision and object recognition by harnessing human expertise to improve object classification algorithms. For example, computerized object recognition systems struggle mightily to identify bird species-a task that takes experienced birders only a few seconds to a few minutes. Belongie and colleagues consulted bird experts to develop a computerized 20-questions game that utilizes users' input to dramatically improve the performance of computer vision algorithms. The method demonstrates the effectiveness and feasibility of the human-computer hybrid classification paradigm.
