Bioengineering Day 2015

BEGS Team

Vivek Parthasarathy

Vivek Parthasarathy
Event Chair & Core Committee Co-Chair (Graduate), BE Day 2015
Vivek is a second year Ph.D. student in the Bioinformatics, Systems Biology, and Systems Medicine lab working under Dr. Subramaniam. He finds translational medicine research and new Zelda games equally exciting, and splits his free time between playing cricket, cooking, and trying to understand the Bear. Vivek, an IIT Madras graduate, believes that the interdisciplinarity of the field of Bioengineering will help churn out both the technology and insight that enable us to completely understand the underlying biology- both in context and scale. Through his work and career, he hopes to make at least a small contribution towards realizing the dream of personalized medicine. Contact him at vipartha@eng.ucsd.edu.

Ivneet Bhullar

Ivneet Bhullar
Planning Committee, BE Day 2015
Ivneet is a second-year M.S. student in Bioengineering working on biomaterials and stem cell engineering for tissue engineering applications in the Varghese Lab. When not in the lab, you can find Ivneet enjoying food in Old Town or hiking in various areas along the California coastline. He spends the rest of his spare time playing soccer or basketball and daydreaming of his next vacation. Considering Bioengineering to be the perfect integration of all STEM disciplines, Ivneet enjoys organizing events that highlight innovative achievements in this field. You can email him at ibhullar@eng.ucsd.edu.

Justin Stanley Plaut

Justin Stanley Plaut
Planning Committee, BE Day 2015
After graduating with top honors from the Biotechnology track of UCSD Bioengineering in 2013, Justin continued as a Ph.D. student in Sadik Esener's Lab. His interests include the development of therapeutic nanoparticles and the study of oncolytic viruses. Justin is active in both the Interfaces Graduate Training Program and the HHMI Med-Into-Grad Initiative, where he is learning about the pathology, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. In his free time, Justin enjoys hiking, tinkering with computers, and playing the piano. He believes Bioengineers have a unique ability of traversing the STEM fields- an ability that allows them to transcend perceived barriers and take on challenges from a novel perspective. Justin can be emailed at jplaut@eng.ucsd.edu.

Sara Hariri

Sara Hariri
Planning Committee, BE Day 2015
Sara is a 3rd year Bioengineering Ph.D. student at UCSD. Her research is focused on skeletal muscle tissue regeneration, with the goal of utilizing stem cell transplantation to help patients with muscular dystrophy. She reminds herself that today is the tomorrow that she worried about yesterday and tries to make every day meaningful and full of life and energy. She can be contacted at s1hariri@eng.ucsd.edu.
