Distinguished Engineer and Director
David McElfresh is a Director of Hardware Development and a Distinguished Engineer at Oracle's Physical Sciences Research Center (PSRC) in San Diego. He joined SUN Microsystems (now part of Oracle) in 2001 to help found and set-up the PSRC. He heads the RASCAL organization which includes the Reliability Physics Group and the Systems Dynamics Characterization and Control Group. David and these groups are responsible for helping to select new technologies for hardware systems, for ensuring that these technologies will be problem-free throughout their life-cycles, for rapidly root causing and solving complex issues that arise, and for developing and deploying electronic prognostics to enhance RAS. Before joining SUN Microsystems, David worked at Hewlett-Packard for nearly 17 years where his responsibilities included managing, directing, and engineering in various groups and functions involved with light emitting diodes and with inkjet printing technologies. He has a Ph.D. from UC Davis and holds more than 40 US patents.
