Gaurav Agrawal, a member of both the Gordon Engineering Leadership Center and the von Liebig Entrepreneurism Center, has become a co-founder and Vice President of Blue LINC, an incubator that allows students to bridge the gap between real world healthcare issues and students with the knowledge to solve them.
Diana is pushing the boundaries in engineering and is the first woman engineer candidate to be selected from the University of California, San Diego for the highly competitive Brooke Owens Fellowship Program in Washington D.C. The Brooke Owens Fellowship Program mission is to inspire and train exceptional undergraduate women seeking a career in aviation or space exploration.
This summer Diana will join 35 other fellows for their senior mentorship and paid positions at the leading aerospace firms. Diana will intern with Virgin Galactic and will have Scott Parazynski, a former NASA astronaut as her mentor. He is the only man who has flown into space and climbed Mount Everest.
Kudos to Gaurav for his leadership role in helping start a new accelerator on campus this quarter called Blue LINC.
The mission is to empower students with the tools to advance healthcare technologies and improve patient care around the world. The 6-month program will train interdisciplinary teams of graduate students in healthcare innovation and equip them with the tools needed to develop and market biomedical solutions. Blue LINC began January 2017, with classes.
SEDS has recently been awarded Best Technical Project of 2017 for their outstanding work on Colossus. Colossus is a NASA funded, 100% student built rocket engine test stand that is set to enable the next wave of innovation in propulsion technology in the academic community. It took 10,000 man hours and $300,000 to build it to-date. Among the leaders of the project are Gordon Scholars Dennis Ren and Briana Puketianie, who are leading the way in rocket engine testing. Colossus is going to become available for public testing in February 2018. For more info please visit https://www.sedsucsd.org/projects/colossus/.
