San Diego, Korea team up to tackle transportation

UC San Diego is launching an international research collaboration to develop smart and clean transportation systems and infrastructure, with an added goal of commercializing the results. In partnership with the City of San Diego, the City of Ulsan in Korea and the Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST), along with numerous industry partners, the UC San Diego Smart Transportation Innovation Program will develop technological solutions to tomorrow’s transportation challenges. UC San Diego Innovators: You can now apply to three commercialization programs through one new application

UC San Diego's Institute for the Global Entrepreneur (IGE) and Office of Innovation and Commercialization (OIC) have teamed up to make it easier for students, alumni, faculty and researchers to apply for support to help them commercialize their innovations. UC San Diego innovators – including alumni – can now submit just one application for consideration across three entrepreneurship programs that complement one another. Each program supports teams at different points along the pathway from breakthrough to commercialization with funding, mentorship, practical courses and access to investors.   Full Story

Ashvin Bachireddy speaks with IGE Certificate Program students

Ashvin Bachireddy is a UC San Diego alum who graduated with a Major in Management Science and is currently a venture partner at Geodesic Capital in Silicon Valley. He recently visited IGE?s Technology Management and Entrepreneurism Certificate Program class to share his wisdom and experience. This is Ashvin?s second trip in recent months where he spoke to the Undergraduate Entrepreneurship group in a panel moderated by Prof. Vish Krishnan. As an early investor in companies like Uber and Snapchat, Ashvin talked to the class about how to prepare for investor meetings. He also met one on one with several IGE teams, providing them valuable feedback on their technologies. Prof. Krishnan, IGE?s Associate Director, says he is grateful for Ashvin staying engaged with the campus and giving back to the UC San Diego community to develop our innovation ecosystem.

Smart earplug company developed by UC San Diego undergrads acquired by Bose

High-Tech Baby Monitor Company Co-Founded by UC San Diego Computer Science Alumnus Raises $4 Million

Cocoon Cam, a computer-vision-based baby monitor company co-founded by University of California San Diego computer science alumnus Pavan Kumar (M.S. Computer Science 2015), recently announced that it closed a $4 million Series A funding round. Cocoon Cam is a baby monitor that relies on computer vision technologies to track breathing and other vital signs. It offers instant alerts and sleep analytics that can be accessed by parents anytime through a smartphone app.  Full Story

New UC San Diego Technology Accelerator Selects Five Teams for Its Inaugural Cohort

Today the Institute for the Global Entrepreneur (IGE) at the University of California San Diego announced team selections for its new technology accelerator. Five UC San Diego research teams, with innovations ranging from advanced healthcare diagnostics and medical device technologies to next generation LIDAR for autonomous-vehicle navigation, have been selected to join the new campus program.
