UC San Diego Presents Public Lecture on “Lessons From Recent Earthquakes in Turkey, Greece and Taiwan”

SAN DIEGO, September 30, 1999 -- UC San Diego and UC Berkeley structural engineering experts, just returned from viewing damage in regions devastated by earthquakes in the past two months, will present a free public lecture titled “Lessons from Recent Earthquakes in Turkey, Greece and Taiwan. The lecture will be held Wednesday, October 6 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Garren Auditorium at UC San Diego. Parking is available for $3 in lots 603 and 604 on Osler Lane, just off Gilman Drive.

Research teams from the Pacific Earthquake Engineering Research Center and the Department of Structural Engineering at UC San Diego’s Jacobs School of Engineering will talk about the extent of damage to buildings and highways, why this type of damage was experienced, and what lessons can be learned for the future.
