JACOBS SCHOOL ENGINEERING STUDENT SERVICES RECOGNIZED FOR COMMITMENT TO DIVERSITY

The Jacobs School of Engineering has been honored for the second year in a row with the UCSD Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action & Diversity Award. The School’s Engineering Student Services (ESS) team (Glynda Davis, Michele Blakeman, Noemy Ellis, Marina Hayden, Shelly Karkosky, Susan Kelly, and Kathy Reed) received this year’s award in recognition of its efforts at institutionalizing diversity among engineering students. ESS has a strong partnership with the Mathematics Engineering Science Achievement (MESA) program, which supports educationally disadvantaged students from groups with low eligibility rates for four-year colleges. Through its collaboration with MESA, ESS sponsors advising, workshops, and outreach events to elementary, high school and community college students who are often times underrepresented.
