UC San Diego Jacobs School of Engineering Ranked #13 in 2018 U.S. News and World Report Graduate School Rankings

San Diego, CA, March 14, 2017 -- The UC San Diego Jacobs School of Engineering ranks #13 in the nation, up from #17 last year, in the 2018 U.S. News & World Report best engineering graduate schools rankings. The Jacobs School of Engineering ranks 8th among the nation’s top public engineering schools.

With $168M in research funding for the 2015-2016 fiscal year, the Jacobs School ranks 7th overall – and 1st among all public engineering schools – in research expenditures per faculty member, according to this same U.S. News & World Report ranking.

“Jacobs School of Engineering faculty bring in more research funding per faculty member than any other public engineering school in the country,” said Albert P. Pisano, Dean of the UC San Diego Jacobs School of Engineering. “This is a testament to both the high caliber of the Jacobs School faculty and to the hard work that these faculty, and their research teams, put in to their efforts to invent, innovate and collaborate their way to engineering solutions that serve society.”

Specific graduate programs within engineering schools are also called out in the new ranking.

The Jacobs School’s Bioengineering Department ranks #3 in the nation, up from 4th place last year, among the top biomedical / bioengineering programs in engineering schools that offer doctoral degrees.

The Jacobs School’s specific program rankings include several other top 20 placements: Computer Engineering #14, Electrical / Electronic / Communications Engineering #16, and Civil Engineering #17.

Additional Jacobs School graduate program rankings include:  

Aerospace / Aeronautical / Astronautical Engineering #21, Mechanical Engineering #22, Materials Engineering #27, and Chemical Engineering #54. 

Computer Science and Bioinformatics were not newly ranked this year.
