Beijing Dinner for Alumni, Students and Friends

UCSD spirit is alive and well in China, where 70 alumni, current students and friends gathered at the Yan Can Cook Restaurant in Beijing on July 30 to reconnect and celebrate UCSD's 50th Anniversary. Keynote speakers included Bo Yang ('95, Ph.D., Physics), founder and CEO of Douban.com, and Ziaofeng Shao ('95, Visiting Scholar, Electrical Engineering), Vice President and CTO, Easyway Company Limited. Dean Frieder Seible provided remarks on UCSD's current research and business collaborations with China, our contributions to renewable energy and medical advancements, and the 50th Anniversary celebration, which kicked off in September 2010. Junling Sun ('93, Ph.D., Structural Engineering), President of the UCSD Chinese Students and Scholars Alumni Organization as well as President of SECI, also spoke, along with Ning Ho ('06, B.S., Economics), Head, Beijing Chapter, UCSD Chinese Student and Scholars Alumni Organization and employed at Medley Capital, Beijing.

The Jacobs School also had three UCSD student teams working in China during the summer of 2010, through its Team Internship Program (TIP.) TIP partners with companies interested in hosting multidisciplinary teams of students to work together on key projects. TIP Teams worked at Chinese locations of SECI and Qualcomm.
