The Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) department, led by Chair
Juan Lasheras, organized the successful 54th Annual Meeting of the Fluid
Dynamics Division of the American Physical Society held in November. More
than 1100 engineering scientists from across the globe traveled to San
Diego to participate.
Marcos Intaglietta (BioE) has been awarded the Doctorate of Medicine,
Honorus Causa, from the University of Munich Medical School.
Sutanu Sarkar (MAE) received the Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Research
Award for scientific cooperation between the U.S.A. and Germany. The award
was presented by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.
Paul Sung (BioE) received an honorary professorship at the Peking
Union Medical College for Orthopaedics and Basic Medical Sciences.
Frank Talke (MAE) has been named a Fellow of the American Society
of Mechanical Engineers. Charles Tu (Chair, ECE), James Lemke (MAE) and
Miroslav Krstic (MAE) were elected Fellows of the IEEE.
C.M. Uang (SE) will receive the Raymond C. Reese Research Prize
from the American Society of Civil Engineers for his research on cyclic
testing of steel moment connections rehabilitated with RBS or welded haunch.
