Abstract
We develop a heat control design for a liquid-solid phase change material to drive the liquid-solid interface to a desired setpoint with the measurement of the interface position. The controller is located at the external boundary of the liquid phase, and the positive heat is injected to melt the solid to liquid. The temperature profile is estimated by constructing the observer through the measurement, and the controller is provided by the estimated temperature and the measured interface position. The designed observer allows estimation of the temperature profile based on the available measurement of solid phase length. The designed output-feedback controller maintains injecting positive heat under a proper choice of the setpoint and observer gain, and ensures the global exponential stability of the estimation errors, the equilibrium temperature, and the moving interface to a desired setpoint. Simulation study illustrates the good performance of the proposed heat controller and the temperature estimator.
