Insects present excellent flight performance and are the ideal candidates for bio-inspired flapping unmanned aerial system (FUAS). An effective design of FUAS will try to reproduce the essential aspects of the insects biological features required for efficient flight with focus on the maximization of the payload and minimization of the power required to flap the wings. In previous studies it has been shown that to achieve a high efficiency of flight the wing must not be rigid. The main goal of this effort is to understand the physics of low-Reynolds flight to mimic the exceptional abilities of biological flyers and do even better than them: artificial unmanned systems do no have biological constraints...
