Creating 21st Century Technologists

UC San Diego is collaborating with the Baja California Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (CNyNUNAM) and Centro de Investigación Científica y de Educación Superior de Ensenada (CICESE) to develop 21st Century technologists with the talent and cultural fluency needed to forge global collaborations that leverage the CaliBaja border region’s industrial strengths.

Education leaders: Francisco J. Villarreal and Max Parra

Our focus is on the development of global scientists and engineers that can connect and communicate across borders. Special emphasis is on the formation of cross-border citizens that are not just developing new technologies, but are also socially engaged and have the necessary cultural understanding to promote economic growth in the CaliBaja region.

Specific activities aimed at strengthening the mobility of students and human resources development in the border region include:
  • Student and researcher exchanges
  • Summer schools
  • Research experiences for undergraduates
  • Research experiences for high school students
