Prospective Student Activities

The IDEA Engineering Student Center is dedicated to increasing the application and acceptance rate of undergraduate and graduate students from historically underrepresented groups, including economically and socially disadvantaged students, in the Jacobs School of Engineering.

Engineering Overnight Program

The IDEA Engineering Student Center, in partnership with several campus organizations, coordinates the Overnight Program, which is part of the campus-wide effort to increase the yield rates of diverse, low-income and first-generation students to UC San Diego. This free, invitation-only program for select UC San Diego-admitted high school seniors, provides participants with an opportunity to experience the university environment and campus life at UC San Diego, network with fellow participants, faculty, and current college students, and learn about campus resources.

Breakfast with the Deans

In partnership with the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE), Women in Computing (WIC), Out in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (oSTEM), and Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers (SASE), the IDEA Engineering Student Center coordinates a breakfast for admitted engineering freshmen (during Triton Day) and transfer students (during Transfer Triton Day) from underrepresented backgrounds. Hosted by the Dean of the Jacobs School of Engineering, this event provides an opportunity for students and their families to meet current engineering students, faculty, staff, and learn about the various Jacobs School programs that promote their academic success.
