UC San Diego Jacobs School of Engineering is the lead sponsor of an office space in Nihonbashi Life Science Building in downtown Tokyo. UC San Diego, as a tenant, has access to various conference, meeting and seminar rooms in this building as well as in a nearby building owned by the same landlord - Mitsui Fudosan, a real estate giant in Japan.
The UC San Diego Tokyo Office was launched in July 2016. This website provides details about the office space and various rooms, and explains the procedure for UC San Diego users to utilize the facilities to promote international collaboration in research, higher education and innovation.

Building Facilities
In addition to the UC San Diego office space, there are three types of rooms located throughout the Nihonbashi Life Science Building available for UC San Diego users:

- Meeting Rooms
- Seminar Rooms
Rooms may be reserved for a minimum of 4 hours, with the exception of Meeting rooms 306 to 310 and the UC San Diego Office. Reservation may be made 12 months prior to use.
The Building has additional features available including: a receptionist on the 3rd Floor, who is available to greet visitors and escort them to their meeting location, refreshments on the 3rd Floor, and vending machines on the 9th Floor near the UC San Diego Tokyo Office.

UC San Diego Tokyo Office Cancellation Policy
The following cancellation fees apply for conference rooms on 2F, 3F and 10F:
- 15 to 30 days prior to the date of use – 50% of the estimated rental fees.
- Less than 14 days prior to the date of use – 100% of the estimated rental fees.
- Please note: Only the room rental fees are subject to cancellation penalty.

Guidelines
- UC San Diego faculty and staff may use the Tokyo Office facilities for purposes such as:
- Symposia, seminars, and meetings sponsored by UC San Diego departments
- Meetings sponsored by UC San Diego Alumni Organization
- Activities aimed at promoting international cooperation for research, education and innovation at UC San Diego
- UC San Diego users may collect registration fees to cover event expenses, but the UC San Diego Tokyo Office facilities MUST NOT be used for profit-making activities for taxation reasons.
- The UC San Diego Tokyo Office facilities should not be reserved for third-party events and purposes that are not co-sponsored by UC San Diego departments. There is a liability issue. If this occurs, a bill will be sent to the sponsoring department.
- Nihonbashi Life Science Building is open every day, from 9:00 to 21:00 (except during the winter break from Dec 29 to Jan 3).
- Access to the UC San Diego Tokyo Office (Room 908) is controlled by a security keypad on the door.
- Instructions to connect to the WiFi router and printer are provided in the office.
- Nihonbashi Life Science Building is centrally air-conditioned. Each room's temperature can be adjusted by the control panel in the room. Turn off the control switch when leaving the room.
- Turn off the lights when leaving the room.
Housekeeping
- This is a non-smoking building. There is a designated smoking space on the 1st floor.
- Food & Beverages
- Food and beverages are permitted in the UC San Diego Tokyo Office. Please dispose of all trash when leaving the room. Do not leave food in the room or in the trash can.
- Coffee vending machine on 3F and beverage vending machines on 9F.
- There is no coffee maker in Room 908.
- The UC San Diego Tokyo Office is cleaned every Monday. If you leave cardboard boxes or other trash in the office, please mark it as "TRASH" to ensure it is picked up.
- Building parking is available only for monthly subscribers. Parking is not available for UC San Diego users or guests.

Nihonbashi Life Science Building is conveniently located in downtown Tokyo, in the area called Nihonbashi.
Access to downtown Tokyo by public transit is easy:
- From Narita Int'l Airport to Tokyo Station: 60 minutes by train
- From Haneda Int'l Airport to Tokyo Station: 25 minutes by train

Emergency
- The Building Safety Control Center is located on the 1st floor. The center is staffed from 9:00 to 5:30 on weekdays. Staff answer emergency calls 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. (Emergency call number: 03-3273-3230)
- In case of an emergency, follow the general instructions provided by the building management. The general instructions, translated into English, are available in the UC San Diego Tokyo Office.
- There are two emergency bags located in the UC San Diego Tokyo Office, under the corner table. Examine the contents of the bags when you arrive.

- International travelers are encouraged to make travel arrangement through university-designated travel agencies.
