Dr. Manmohan Kumar Sood
Rishi Sood and his family recently established the Dr. Manmohan Kumar Sood Endowed Scholarship, which supports undergraduate students in the Jacobs School of Engineering. Empowering excellence, scholarships like this effectively launch talented students into the future, setting them up for success in their undergraduate years.
As the proud parents of Roshan Sood, a current student completing his degree in Computer Science, Rishi and Seema Sood are creating a special through-line for their family by making this philanthropic investment. Giving back to the community and supporting the ideals of higher education are long-held values of theirs. The scholarship is named for Rishi’s father, Dr. Manmohan Kumar Sood, who was a professor at Northern Illinois University and established a core family value: giving back to the community through education.

For Rishi, establishing a scholarship in his father’s name has been a meaningful way to honor a family legacy. He shares: “My father taught my brother Sanjay and me about the central importance of higher education. He instilled in us a passion for learning, an appreciation that education unlocks unlimited opportunities for the individual, and the recognition that constant learning helps achieve enlightenment.”
As Roshan pursues his degree, the scholarship in his grandfather’s name will serve as a guiding light and an inspiration to future engineers. We are grateful for these supportive parents who continue to inspire innovation and support the education of tomorrow’s leaders. As an endowed fund, this scholarship will be awarded in perpetuity. Far beyond Roshan’s time at the university, the Sood family’s values and impact will be felt amongst the bright and talented engineering students who gain access to a UC San Diego education in the future.
