Mechanical engineering student awarded Brooke Owens Fellowship

Surya Vohra, a mechanical engineering student at UC San Diego, has been selected as a 2020 Brooke Owens Fellow. The Fellowship is awarded to exceptional undergraduate women in aerospace. This marks the fourth year—since the beginning of the Brooke Owens Fellow program—that a UC San Diego engineering student has been awarded a fellowship. Full Story

Gordon Center Celebrates 10 years, honors Engineering Leadership Award recipients

On Thursday, May 23rd the Gordon Engineering Leadership Center at UC San Diego held its annual awards ceremony, recognizing six outstanding student engineering leaders and three industry professionals who exemplify the qualities of an engineering leader. This year’s celebration marked a particularly special occasion: the Gordon Center’s 10th year of developing strong and effective engineering leaders through its leadership programs and workshops. Putting Earth Science Skills to Use.....on Mars

Hannah Munguia, a UC San Diego environmental engineering student with an earth science minor, had a revelation when she worked on the MARS 2020 Rover as an intern at NASA: there’s a place for environmental science and engineering in the aerospace world. Undergraduate students win Galactic Unite prize

Seven UC San Diego Jacobs School of Engineering students were selected to receive the inaugural Galactic Unite Gavin Jones Prize, which recognizes undergraduate students at UC San Diego studying science, technology, engineering or math with a desire to make an impact on the space industry. The winners each receive a $1,500 cash prize, plus a mentor from either Virgin Galactic, Virgin Orbit or The Spaceship Company. Full Story

A BIG congrats to Dr. Ebonee Williams, Executive Director of the Gordon Engineering Leadership Center for being a UC San Diego Diversity Award Recipient! Dr. Williams has spent the past 8 years building and realizing the Gordon Center's program, which teaches engineering students critical skills of leadership, responsibility, and vision. Over 1200 UCSD students have participated in the Gordon Center's leadership courses and workshops. Dr. Williams is also a founding board member of the IDEA Engineering Student Center, whose purpose is to foster an equitable, welcoming, and sustainable culture of academic excellence in Engineering. Through this Center, Dr. Williams helped to launch GradTalks, a series of professional training workshops. She has also taught leadership skills more broadly, in regional workshops through the Urban League and nationally through the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE). Dr. Williams recognition has been a long time in the making for the many ways she supports our diverse student and the postdoctoral population at UCSD. She is a leader in diversity and equity issues at UCSD and beyond. Full Story

The Mars Generation list is packed with some of the brightest students and young people who are positioned to shape our future for the better. Among the awardees for 2018 are Gordon Scholars Darren Charrier and Deepak Atyam. Darren Charrier is a UC San Diego aerospace engineering undergraduate student and CEO and Co-Founder of Voyager Space Technologies. He is also a Gordon Scholar and Gordon Fellow award winner for Engineering Leadership. Deepak Atyam is a UC San Diego alumnus and Co-Founder and CEO of Tri-D Dynamics. He is also a Gordon Scholar alumnus and Gordon Fellow award winner for Engineering Leadership. We are continuously impressed by both Darren's and Deepak's passion and engineering leadership.
