Evan Huang
@ Pacific Southwest Conference

"I helped Concrete Canoe with the construction of the canoe. I was also there to support the other project teams and network with ASCE professionals. UC San Diego ended up winning 2nd place overall for Concrete Canoe, the first time in many years that we placed in the top 3. I was able to learn about concrete construction methods as well as gain valuable contacts in the industry."

Xuanang Lin
@ 2019 IEEE VLSI Test Symposium

“My first authored paper was accepted to the conference. This is my first time giving a technical presentation about my research work. I spent a lot of time improving my presentation skills and prepared to answer any questions from other professors, PhD students, and industrial people. During the conference, I met a lot of people that are interested in my research. I also listened to a bunch of talks in the field of hardware testing and security that represent the state of the art development in these fields.”

Tanish Jain
@ NATCAR Race at UC Davis

“We showcased and raced our autonomous line-following vehicle at the event. While we did not place as the fastest car, we did learn more about control systems from other participating teams which gave us a unique perspective on how we can improve our project. We did reach a speed of 9.6 ft/s during our testing phase, which was higher than our originally anticipated goal. Overall, this was an enjoyable educational experience where we could display the work of IEEE ar UCSD.”

Yimeng Yang
@ Facebook Developer Conference 2019

"I attended many different sessions and learned about new technologies that Facebook is releasing to help other businesses and community. I also went to different booth to talk to Facebook employees. I met a lot of different people at the event and expanded my network. I gained a lot of connections and also learned about different people's background and their career."

Samantha Fong
@ 2019 Engineers for a Sustainable World Annual Conference

“Attending the 2019 ESW CON was a great experience. I was able to learn so much about innovations in sustainable tech and opportunities to contribute to global fight against climate change. It was an especially valuable networking experience. Through attending the conference, I was able to create closer bonds with other chapters and network to gather advice and mentorship for our projects.”

Victoria Thai
@ Engineers for a Sustainable World Annual Conference 2019

"I gained many things from the conference. For one, there were many speakers for the event that discussed different topics, including sustainable city infrastructure and how to create international projects. From those sessions, I learned that public transportation can drastically reduce personal vehicles on the roads. I also learned how to organize, plan, and execute an international project that could help poorer communities live better lives, for example, building a bridge across a river. We were also able to network with other students from different chapters. I now have a contact from another chapter that can help get corporate sponsorship for the UCSD chapter. I was able to learn more about different resources within the ESW national community that can help make the ESW-UCSD chapter even better through the community, fundraising, or through projects. All in all, the ESW conference was a great experience that taught me new things about being an ESW member and leader."

Carmen Guzman
@ NSBE 45th National Convention

“I got a mock interview and resume review from an industry professional and got to meet various companies from around the country. Some of the companies I met with do not typically come to recruit at UCSD, hence it was a great opportunity to make new connections and learn more about the Chemical Engineering Industry. I got to refine my resume and learned how to tailor it for different purposes. I got a lot of tips and advise from various attendees and Industry leaders on how to prepare for success.”

Caesar Alva
@ Associated Schools of Construction

"The event was one of a kind that cannot be replaced by any other experience. It involved coming up with construction solutions under 15 hours, acting as a general contractor for a heavy civil problem. We were able to learn what involves building a bridge especially on the financial side. We had to determine an estimate for the total amount it would cost to buil the bridge and the staging of how it would get constructed. We learned how communication and organizational skills are key components in any job site as its a team collaboration between engineers, architects and general contractors to have a job done. On top of that it was also important to keep everything organized as coming up with a bid book to explain the different estimates and subcontractors that are joining the site can become a part of the problem if nothing is organized."
