Shang’s research focuses on developing data-driven text mining approaches with light human annotation effort to transform massive text data into actionable knowledge. His research has been successfully applied to a wide spectrum of industries across different domains (e.g., biomedical & financial).
Capsule Bio:
Shang earned his PhD from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign before joining UC San Diego. He received his B.E. from SJTU in 2014. He also is a coach of the UCSD’s ACM-ICPC team. He holds a joint appointment with the Halicioglu Data Science Institute and the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the Jacobs School.
