With $222.5 million in federal, state and industry research expenditures in FY20, the Jacobs School of Engineering ranks first among all public engineering schools, for research expenditures per faculty member. Bioengineering
The Department of Bioengineering ranks 3rd in the nation for biomedical/bioengineering (US News and World Report Ranking of Best Engineering Schools, published March 2021). Bioengineering has ranked among the top four programs in the nation every year for more than a decade.

Computer Science and Engineering
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) ranks 11th in computer systems; 13th in programming languages; 14th in computer science theory; and 16th in the nation overall. (US News and World Report Ranking of Best Engineering Schools, published March 2018).

Electrical and Computer Engineering
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) ranks 16th for its programs in electrical / electronic / communications engineering (US News and World Report Ranking of Best Engineering Schools, published March 2021).

Computer Engineering
The Jacobs School ranks 14th in computer engineering, a program offered in both the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE). (US News and World Report Ranking of Best Engineering Schools, published March 2020).

Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering

NanoEngineering
