Scott B. B. Baden

Faculty-Emeritus, Computer Science and Engineering

High performance and parallel scientific computation.

Professor Baden's research interests are in large scale scientific computation: parallel computation, algorithms, irregular data structures, run time optimization, and performance characterization. Baden works extensively with colleagues in applied fields such as chemistry, fluid dynamics, and biology with applications to cell physiology, subsurface modeling, turbulence study, and ab-initio molecular dynamics. Baden teaches parallel computation at the graduate and undergraduate level, and compilers.

Capsule Bio:
Scott Baden joined the UCSD faculty in 1990. He received the M.S. and Ph.D. in Computer Science from UC Berkeley in 1982 and 1987, respectively, and did his undergraduate work at Duke University in Electrical Engineering. Baden is a member of the Tau Beta Pi and Eta Kappa Nu Engineering Honor Societies, IEEE (Senior Member) and SIAM. At UCSD, he co-directs the CSE Department's Scientific Computation Group and is a founding faculty member of the UCSD Program in Computational Science, Mathematics, and Engineering. Scott Baden is an avid photographer and traveler.
