Faculty Profiles

Dr. Petersen is both a medical doctor and an engineer. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she is focusing on ventilators. She co-lead a team that developed a low-cost, easy to use ventilator for COVID-19 patients. She also investigated how to safely split a ventilator between two patients. In the past, her work has focused on space medicine. 

Capsule Bio:

Before joining the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at UC San Diego, Dr. Petersen was a postdoctoral researcher  at the UC San Diego School of Medicine. Petersen received her MD/Ph.D. from the University of Copenhagen.
