Updated With New Positions: Jacobs School Recruiting for 12 Positions in 2012-13

San Diego, Calif., Nov. 29, 2012 -- The Jacobs School of Engineering at UC San Diego currently is recruiting for 12 open faculty positions in the 2012-13 academic year. The positions fall within three strategic research focus areas identified by the school: energy, sustainability and environment; engineering in medicine; and information technology and applications. Several of the positions are part of a three-year recruitment plan in the area of advanced energy research.

The positions are especially focused on the following areas: biosystems, big data, energy/medical devices, mechanics/energy/biomed, materials in energy and blast mitigation. The new openings are spread across departments as follows: two for computer science and engineering, and one each for nanoengineering, bioengineering, mechanical and aerospace engineering, electrical engineering and structural engineering, as well as two schoolwide recruitments. One additional position focuses on excellence in any research specialty. Two of the positions, one in computer science and engineering and one in nanoengineering, are focused on teaching. Candidates will be assessed on scholarship, service, contributions to programs focused on diversity and teaching excellence.
