New Technology Accelerator Launching at UC San Diego

San Diego, Calif., March 21, 2017 – The Institute for the Global Entrepreneur at the University of California San Diego is launching a unique Technology Accelerator to fast-track early stage, high impact technologies and effectively shorten the timelines for UC San Diego innovations to enter the market. The Institute for the Global Entrepreneur (IGE) is a collaboration between the Jacobs School of Engineering and the Rady School of Management.

The accelerator offers funding of up to $50,000 for prototype development and field testing to pre-incorporated teams consisting of UC San Diego faculty, graduate students, postdocs, and/or researchers. In addition, teams will gain access to path to market planning with mentors and domain experts, as well as connections to industry and customers.

"This is a great opportunity for research teams to accelerate their path from discovery to commercial success by collaborating with seasoned advisors and obtaining the funding necessary to advance their technologies to the prototype stage," said Dennis Abremski, Executive Director at the Institute for the Global Entrepreneur. "The selected teams will gain significant credibility by achieving key milestones that validate their technology, reduce market risk, and demonstrate traction with target customers."

By the end of the program, teams will be prepared to seek a corporate licensing partner or create a startup.

Teams are invited to apply by March 22, 2017.

While this call for proposals is open to any high impact technology project at UC San Diego, the accelerator is especially looking for teams working to advance technologies in the following areas:

  • Energy & Environment
  • Digital Health & Personalized Medicine
  • Advanced Computing & Intelligent Networks
  • Smart Cities
