Professor Mike Todd: Lead Institution for US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE)

Professor Michael Todd was  selected to be the lead institution for a new US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) center in Structural Health Monitoring for Risk-Based Infrastructure Management. Professor Todd is the PI.  This project is expected to be a $10M effort over the next 5 years to build technology solutions centered on the “digital twin” concept integrating advanced sensing, diagnostic data analytics, and predictive modeling to support data-to-decision capabilities for the USACE Civil Works’ large infrastructure portfolio.  This portfolio, consisting of over 12,000 miles of navigable inland waterways, 926 commercial harbors, 191 locks, 353 hydroelectric power generating units, 694 dams, 56,000 miles of lake and river shoreline, and 14,700 miles of levees, represents more than a $250B replacement value and supports more than $100B in commerce and recreation value to the USA.  

Partners include Scripps Institution of Oceanography, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Elintrix Inc. (San Diego, CA), and HBM nCode (Starkville, MS).
