San Diego, CA, February 11, 2005 -- The Jacobs School's William J. von Liebig Center for Entrepreneurism and Technology Advancement has joined StorageNetworking.org, an initiative created by the UCSD-based Information Storage Industry Center.

StorageNetworking.org aims to help address the educational needs of data storage technology users. The initiative is currently supporting the formation of local Storage Networking User Groups (SNUGs) and making existing educational opportunities more accessible. The organization also acts as a clearinghouse for information about the industry.

The von Liebig Center is the latest of several UCSD organizations that have agreed to participate as Academic Affiliates in the StorageNetworking.org consortium. Others include the Center for Magnetic Recording Research (CMRR), the California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology (Calit2), UCSD Extension, and the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC).

In announcing its newest member, StorageNetworking.org noted that the Center's role is to "foster innovation within the UCSD Jacobs School of Engineering; accelerate the commercialization of Jacobs School knowledge; facilitate the exchange of ideas between Jacobs School and Industry; and prepare engineering students for the entrepreneurial workplace." The Center works with UCSD Technology Transfer and Intellectual Property Services, UCSD CONNECT and the Center for the Commercialization of Advanced Technology. The von Liebig Center was established through a gift from the William J. von Liebig Foundation.
