UC San Diego Jacobs School of Engineering ranks highly in latest UC News and World Report Rankings of Best Engineering Schools
April 25, 2023: The University of California San Diego Jacobs School of Engineering has ranked #12 in the nation in the influential U.S. News & World Report Rankings of Best Engineering Schools. This #12 ranking is up from #17 seven years ago. In the same US News & World Report Rankings, the bioengineering graduate program in the Shu Chien-Gene Lay Department of Bioengineering at the UC San Diego Jacobs School of Engineering ranked #5 in the nation. Bioengineering at UC San Diego has ranked among the top five programs in the nation every year for more than a decade. (Read the UC San Diego campus-wide rankings story here.)
Schoolwide, the UC San Diego Jacobs School of Engineering increased its research expenditures by 12.6% year over year to $244.7M.
"Research activity is one of the metrics that highlights our strength and impact in research. As measured by research expenditures, our research activity was higher last year than it has ever been. Our research expenditures per faculty member are now also higher than ever. The number of students receiving PhD degrees is also up," said Albert P. Pisano, Dean of the UC San Diego Jacobs School of Engineering. "We are #1 in California, and #1 on the West Coast, for engineering and computer science research expenditures. Winning research funding is a team effort within each lab, and everyone should feel extremely proud about our collective results in this area. These metrics highlight the incredible work that each of you do each day. Together, we ensure that the Jacobs School of Engineering has the greatest positive impact possible."
