UCSD Ranks in Top 10 List of Best Value for Public Colleges

September 22, 2006 -- The University of California, San Diego is ranked among the top 10 public colleges in the United States for best value, according to the September 2006 issue of Kiplinger Personal Finance.

UCSD ranks eighth on the listing, with the only other California university in the top 10, UCLA, ranked ninth. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill tops the list.

Kiplinger Personal Finance uses a quantitative ranking system to find schools where students can receive a “grade-A education without accumulating significant debt. The Kiplinger report says that public schools’ average tuition bill of $5,491 per yer compares to private colleges’ average of $21,235. UCSD’s resident fees/tuition is $6,681.

Selected from a pool of more than 500 public four-year colleges and universities, the schools on Kiplinger’s Personal Finance list are ranked according to academic quality, cost and financial aid.
