Dr. Rosibel Ochoa: New Commercialization Director at von Liebig Center
October 20, 2006: The William J. von Liebig Center for Entrepreneurism and Technology Advancement at the University of California, San Diego, today announced the appointment of Dr. Rosibel Ochoa as the Center's new Commercialization Director. The von Liebig Center is part of UCSD's highly-ranked Jacobs School of Engineering, and it was established to foster commercialization of Jacobs School research and to prepare engineering students for the entrepreneurial workplace.
“Rosibel is uniquely suited for this senior position after years of diverse experience in industry, university technology transfer, and commercialization,” said Paul Kedrosky, Executive Director of the von Liebig Center. “She brings energy, creativity, and direct experience to this important position.”
Prior to joining the von Liebig Center, Rosibel was the founder of TekDome, LLC., a technology commercialization consultancy in San Diego, California. Its clients included Research Triangle Institute, the Georgia Institute of Technology, and several startup companies.
From 2002 to 2005, she was the Associate Director of the Office of Technology Licensing and Manager of the Industrial Contracts Group at the Georgia Institute of Technology.
Rosibel worked at Motorola’s Energy Systems Group from 1998 to 2002, where, among other things, she was significantly involved in organizing and mining Motorola’s extensive intellectual property, including valuation of technology, licensing and technology transfer.
Prior to that, she was at MeadWestvaco from 1996 to 1998 as a research scientist, developing materials for advanced lithium-polymer batteries and carbon-based super capacitors.
“I am very excited to join the team working with researchers at the forefront of science and technology, and look forward to a close collaboration with UCSD faculty in exploring and developing the commercial potential of their innovations,” said Rosibel.
Rosibel received her B.Sc. in chemical engineering from the National University of Honduras, and her M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Louisville.
The von Liebig Center provides funding for UCSD Jacobs School of Engineering technology projects that have strong commercial potential, as well as offering related education programs. Since the Center’s inception in 2001, it has awarded more than $2.4 million in support of 56 projects led by faculty members of the Jacobs School.
