Characterization and modeling of heterogeneous geomaterials across scales, microstructure and macroscopic behavior of materials.
Shabnam Semnani focuses on characterization and modeling of heterogeneous geomaterials across scales, and development of multi-scale and multi-physics models to link the microstructure and macroscopic behavior of these materials. This is achieved by combining statistical, computational and numerical modeling methods with experimental techniques conducted at various scales. Some of the applications of her work include carbon sequestration, hydrocarbon recovery and geothermal energy production.
