Zahra Sadeghizadeh

Assistant Teaching Professor, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering


Aerospace Engineering Education and STEM Pedagogy

Sadeghizadeh’s pedagogical research projects focus on concept-based learning to foster students’ understanding of complex problems. She applies active learning techniques and various assessment methods to investigate students’ learning outcomes in engineering.

Her teaching expertise spans various mechanical and aerospace engineering courses, including Fluid Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Dynamics, Orbital Mechanics, Rocket Propulsion, and Experimental Methods in Aerospace Engineering. She is the recipient of an Excellence in Teaching award from the University of California, Davis. Beyond her teaching responsibilities, Sadeghizadeh is dedicated to promoting STEM fields among underrepresented communities through outreach programs.

Capsule Bio:

Zahra Sadeghizadeh joined the faculty of the Jacobs School of Engineering at the University of California San Diego in 2023, specializing in thermo-fluids and engineering education. Prior to her role at UC San Diego, she held a similar position at the University of California, Davis for two years. Before that, she worked as an assistant professor in the mechanical engineering department at Florida Polytechnic University. She received her Ph.D. in aerospace engineering from Missouri University of Science and Technology (2019) where she was involved in designing and conducting experiments and numerical simulations to develop analytical models for separation of shear-driven liquid films from a sharp corner.
